sunset mini maternity session [Morristown, NJ Natural Light Photographer]

I haven’t done a maternity session in a while and it felt so good to get back outside this weekend. Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day after weeks of super chilly temps. We headed to the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, one of my favorite spots to photograph families. There are so many options as far as backdrops go. The timing was perfect too. The sun was just starting to dip behind the trees so the light was perfect. Here’s a quick sneak peak!

I really never anticipated having to still be indoors this late into March but winter just doesn’t want to go away!! I am itching to get back outside again.

Miss Sienna is celebrating a big milestone soon and I’m so glad she came to visit me. First birthday sessions are so much fun because it usually involves a cake. In my experience, babies either love it or hate it. Miss Sienna was not a big fan! I think it’s the icing.

And we couldn’t leave out big sister Julia! These two are so cute. Sienna kept pulling Julia’s hair. lol! They looked super cute in their Easter dresses. D family it was so much fun seeing you again. I hope you enjoy your sneak peak!

2013 Spring Booking incentives!

All this dreary winter weather has me thinking about spring and getting back outdoors with my camera. So in an effort to meet some new families and hopefully catch up with some old favorites, I am running two specials for Spring.

The first is for any family session booked in March or April. You will receive a complimentary 4×8 accordion album.

Here’s an example of a 4×8 accordion book.

The second is Mother’s Day Mini sessions.

a sneak peek into my home studio prop closet

I finally found some time this past weekend to go through all of my blankets and props for newborn shoots and organize them. Now that I am offering in studio newborn sessions, it made sense to unpack my giant storage bin of blankets, wraps, hats, and headbands and put them away nicely in a closet. I used to lug that giant storage bin with me to every newborn shoot, along with a huge bean bag and a basket or two. It was a pain in the butt to say the least. I didn’t even get to bring half the stuff with me! I’m so happy to be able to offer my newborn clients a space to come that is comfortable and relaxing and they get to see all of the adorable things I have.

In my previous post, I mentioned the difference between in studio and on location newborn shoots. On location newborn sessions take place in a client’s home. I don’t bring a beanbag or props. I use what is available in a client’s home. In studio newborn sessions take place at my home studio. I have all of my blankets, wraps, and props available to use. Studio newborn sessions are great for clients who may not have enough natural light in their own home or clients who prefer more posed shots. Regardless of where you choose to have your newborn session, I think my style comes through in both shoots. I love neutral colors. I love warm images and I don’t go crazy with over the top posing.

Miss Caitlyn was a tough cookie but we still got some fabulous shots. Her big sister, Abbey, was a champ during the entire shoot. Newborn sessions can easily take 2 hours and that’s a long time for a 3 (almost 4) year old. We started with a few siblings shots and then some family pics so that she wouldn’t tire out too much. How gorgeous are these girls?

Then we moved on to the bean bag shots. I had been wanted to use this bonnet and leg warmer set from Fancy Fabric & Props ever since I got it. It took a while to get Miss Caitlyn asleep enough to be able to snap some pics but so worth it. Love this!

And mom brought a blanket that matches Caitlyn’s room, which is a great way to make the shoot more personal. Plus, these images will fit in great with the decor!

Thanks so much F family for visiting me! You have an awesome family and the girls are lucky to have such wonderful parents.
