in studio newborn session [Florham Park, NJ Newborn Photographer]

In my previous post, I mentioned the difference between in studio and on location newborn shoots. On location newborn sessions take place in a client’s home. I don’t bring a beanbag or props. I use what is available in a client’s home. In studio newborn sessions take place at my home studio. I have all of my blankets, wraps, and props available to use. Studio newborn sessions are great for clients who may not have enough natural light in their own home or clients who prefer more posed shots. Regardless of where you choose to have your newborn session, I think my style comes through in both shoots. I love neutral colors. I love warm images and I don’t go crazy with over the top posing.

Miss Caitlyn was a tough cookie but we still got some fabulous shots. Her big sister, Abbey, was a champ during the entire shoot. Newborn sessions can easily take 2 hours and that’s a long time for a 3 (almost 4) year old. We started with a few siblings shots and then some family pics so that she wouldn’t tire out too much. How gorgeous are these girls?

Then we moved on to the bean bag shots. I had been wanted to use this bonnet and leg warmer set from Fancy Fabric & Props ever since I got it. It took a while to get Miss Caitlyn asleep enough to be able to snap some pics but so worth it. Love this!

And mom brought a blanket that matches Caitlyn’s room, which is a great way to make the shoot more personal. Plus, these images will fit in great with the decor!

Thanks so much F family for visiting me! You have an awesome family and the girls are lucky to have such wonderful parents.

In Home Newborn Session [West Orange, NJ Newborn Photographer]

In 2013, I changed the way I photograph newborns. I now offer two different kinds of shoots ~ in studio and on location. On location newborn sessions are typically done in a client’s home. These sessions are great for clients who would be more comfortable in their home and who prefer a more natural, lifestyle feel to their images. I don’t bring a beanbag with me. I use whatever clients have available. The M family had the perfect setting for Griffin’s newborn session. An empty room with gorgeous light. There was a bed with a white comforter and one great chair. The walls were painted a soft, light blue color so there were no ugly color casts. It worked out great. The bonus was getting to spend the morning with Abby, Griffin’s big sis. Seriously one of the sweetest little girls I’ve ever met. She has the most adorable voice too. So sweet!

dancing in the snow

It’s rare that we get 50 degree days in February so I jumped at the chance to snag some shots of my little one in her new pink dress dancing around in the snow. It took me about 30 or 40 minutes to go through these images, pick out my faves, and then apply a quick warming action. Sometimes less is more and these are so simple and pretty I didn’t want to mess with them much. Hope you enjoy!

From a recent session with my girls. Loved this shot. It’s actually an outtake from a bigger project I hope to launch soon. Stay tuned!

In Home Newborn Session [Florham Park, NJ Newborn Photographer]

This year I started offering two types of newborn sessions ~ in studio and on location. Miss Britton was born less than two weeks ago and mom wanted to capture some pictures of her at home while she is still in that sleepy newborn stage. When I first arrived, Britton was still awake so we took advantage of those wide-eyed moments. I love a newborn session that has a mix of sleepy and awake images. They are only little once and to capture how calm and alert she is even at such a young age is a wonderful gift.

Mom loves soft, simple all-white shots so it was the perfect setting for this snowy weekend.

Big sister Ashlyn was having a bit of a tough time adjusting to the baby’s arrival but she was willing to let me snap a few shots while she watched videos on an IPad. How gorgeous are her crystal blue eyes??
